Clean Diesel-Powered Volkswagen 2009 Jetta TDI Named "Green Car of the Year"
The Diesel Technology Forum congratulates Volkswagen, as the 2009 Jetta TDI was named "2009 Green Car Award" by Green Car Journal today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This award is more evidence that clean diesel technology is uniquely poised to play a leading role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and our reliance on imported oil today. “This award is a true milestone for clean diesel technology," said Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the Diesel Technology Forum. “The new generation of diesels like the Jetta TDI fundamentally changes the green technology landscape. In addition to being clean, these new cars are quiet, fun to drive and for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, eligible for a $1300 federal tax credit for their purchase." Clean diesel vehicles emit 10 to 20 percent fewer greenhouse gases and achieve up to 40 percent better fuel economy than comparable gasoline vehicles. Economics, Efficiency, Readiness, will Propel Diesel Power into Key Role Helping Tackle Unprecedented National Challenges
Meeting the mutual goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reliance on imported oil and increasing the use of renewable fuels has been identified as a top priority. New policy options will identify which industries and technologies likely to play a leading role. Clean diesel technology is uniquely poised to play a leading role in addressing each of these current national challenges.
